went in last night.........pretty quiet for a friday night at 930...not to mention they pour a really weak drink....and then charge you 2.50 to top it off so you can taste the vodka (and this was a vodka soda mind you). the food is overpriced average...we had some of the burgers and sandwches...ho hum. this is the same ownership that had finley grill room...they are barely hanging on, so they moved a few plants, took a wall down, opened up the bar and started serving cold beer........so i guess they are hoping you'll forget how much it sucks. honestly, the best thing about this place is the bathroom...pretty cool tile work. another tip.....you might want to tell your bartender and tendress to lose the attitude...when i call your name 5 times for a drink and you don't acknowledge me, yes, i will call you "toots"....and then you throw a fit and start giving me all kinds of attitude like i just cussed you out. grow up, people shouldn't bartend until they are at least 25....especially chicks. this place will be out of business within 8 months, unless they get a casino license or adult dancing permit.

Great decor, liked the low lighting and beer selection was great. Mixed drink selection not awesome, and they really fell down on the food. Husband ordered his burger medium well, arrived rare. Waitress offered to "throw it back on for a few minutes" but with the accoutrements on the burger, and the blood all over the plate, it would have been more appropriate to offer a new burger. My Aztec Chicken Wrap, was spicy, but with no real "blackened chicken flavor", more like lettuce covered with spicy dressing. Husband too grossed out to eat anything at this point so we paid and left. No discount offered on bill. Will not return.

Nice place. The food is good. My sister, mom and now I, recommend the pot roast sandwich. It's awesome! The southwest eggrolls are also, really good! The menu is interesting, creative and reasonable. Great staff! Very friendly. Great place to hang out on a Fri./Sat. night. Great beer selection! Great place for a party. They have several private areas for parties. The layout is pretty nice. Nice tv's/good viewing for sports. A decent looking banquet area too for graduations, weddings, etc. Cozy vibe w/lots of wood and rock accents. Hence, the name, Rockwood Tap House.

Loved it when it was the Finley Grill Room and am only a bit disappointed with the new concept in that they changed the "Dick Van Dyke Show" 60's-style decor! Same great food at a great price. The burgers are some of the best in the area and the appetizers are outstanding.

Great place! I might even make this my regular spot. Very mellow, great decor, and the food was delish. Rockwood has great music playing to and to the laid back early 70's/late 60's decor. There are plenty of TVs to watch the big game. It has a huge selection of beers and the food was pretty good.

A work group gathered here for lunch recently, and everyone enjoyed their meal. I decided to recommend it to my family, and we all ate there tonight. The kids enjoyed burgers and the chopped salad--my husband and I had fish tacos and substituted the (not fried) fish with blackened tuna. We also decided to be bad and order the fried pickles (frickles). Service was fast and friendly, food was good and abundant. We don't go out often and LOVE Parkers--this was a much more affordable alternative. The atmosphere is lacking, and I'm not sure what I would recommend to improve it. Louder music? Candles on the tables? More people? Rearranged furniture? I must say the decor is nice--and so is the fireplace--and so is the lack of a crowd! Nice family dinner. Thank you, Rockwood Tap House!

I've been at this restaurant twice the first time I went the food was not so great I had the Quesadillas and some appetizers the only thing I enjoyed were the onion rings. I went to Rockwood again about a year later, the beer selection is good but not much is on the menu for mixed drinks or liquor. We ordered the nachos that came on a huge plate, they were ok. On the huge plate it only had 10 chips covered in cheese and a lot of lettuce (which looked like a salad with all that lettuce) and sides of salsa, sour cream, jalapeños & guacamole. The nachos were not worth what we paid for, I could have made better at home with a lot more chips & cheese. With all the restaurants down Butterfield Road, I would not recommend this restaurant for the food.

How does a place get only 3 stars on YELP and over 4 stars on Open Table? Because you have to actually go to the place on Open Table to review it! YELP reviewers do not necessarily eat at these places OR they review the WRONG place. Look at the reviews on OPEN TABLE for actual reviews on the food & service. Negative Yelp reviews are all about haters just tryin to hate!

I've been to Rockwood quite a few times with friends, and I have to say it is never my pick. I've tried a different thing on the menu each time and find the food to be just so-so. It could just be me! My friends seem to love it! I really want to love it! I just...don't. The service is adequate, though last time it was quite slow and the wait staff was pretty uncertain when queried about their drink options. The restaurant itself is a rather trendy bar setup with dining area around it. It is a nice location and the atmosphere is pleasant, though rather loud on weekends as you might expect. We have always called for reservations, so I'm not sure how long the wait is without. I've tried the nachos, the french onion soup, and a few of the different sandwich options. Didn't love anything I've tried so far. I'm sure I'll be back and perhaps update my review if I do come across the magic that I appear to be missing out on!

I used to love this place. The food was good and the ambiance/service outstanding. As of recently, food took a giant nosedive and the service got bad. Condescending manager refusing to own up to mediocre food leaving the kitchen. I wouldn't recommend anymore.

I drove in from St. Louis for a family event. We had lunch and everyone enjoyed their meal. I had the Pot Roast Sandwich , it was good. I sampled the ribs: good, burgers: good, Cajun pasta: good and the rice (side item) simply was amazing! The Service was "Above and Beyond" our server not only help set up for the event but he catered to our every need. Definitely a lunch spot the next time I pop in town.

I loved it. My friends loved it. There's a lot to love. My friends and I try to gather every Tuesday for dinner. It almost never happens these days, but we still try. Last month we got together and hung out at Rockwood Taphouse, and the service food and ambiance couldn't have been better, despite not one but TWO large birthday parties happening while we were there. Our server was polite, kept the drinks filled and got the food correct and out fast. Some of us were trying to eat healthy, and there are a variety of options to do so, including several tasty salads. I went with the BBQ salad, which isn't nearly as unhealthy as it sounds. All the ingredients were fresh, and dispersed well. There was a good topping-to-green ratio. All in all it was great. We also shared a plate of nachos (ok, that wasn't the most healthy choice), which were equally tasty. In fact, as we got together last night we were talking about how great Rockwood was and how we look forward to going back.

Don't waste your time with this place. Management's attitude is poor (to put it nicely). I called last Tuesday to see if they could accommodate 20 people and 2 infants on Saturday evening. The owner immediately seemed put out but said he could do it. He requested we combine checks as much as possible so everyone in our party made sure to bring cash. Upon arrival, the owner (very tall, angry looking guy) frowned at us but sat us promptly in a side room. Over the phone he mentioned we would be sat at 3 different tables near each other. These 3 tables were spread out in a line, not very conducive to socializing. A very large 14 person-ish table sat empty in the middle of the same room. No idea why he didn't sit us there along with a smaller table directly next to it. Obviously our group was unhappy with the arrangement and pushed our 3 tables together. The owner immediately came in and reprimanded me as if he were my father. He basically told us we should leave if we weren't happy with the arrangement, SO WE DID! The restaurant was by no means crowded so really it's his loss on an easy $600-700 over a couple of hours. The bar area was also empty. He could have sat us at a handful of high-tops and everyone would have been happy. Maybe the owner has been burned by past large parties, but that is no reason to treat us the way he did. I can guarantee you none of the 20 people in our party will be dining at Rockwood Tap any time soon.

This place is confused. It's dumpy on the outside but rather appealing to look at on the inside and that's were the praise ends. Their idea of an Asian salad is lettuce tomatoes cucumbers cilantro and steak with a flavorless salad dressing of oil and soy sauce. It was awful. Where's the cabbage sesame wontons etc. waitress kept apologizing for the taps running slow. Took forever to get a beer. Place was empty on a Saturday night. I give them less than year. And if you're going to be a food sever please comb your hair and maybe apply a little makeup instead of looking like you just rolled out of bed.

I've only been here a few times but every time I come in I've always had a great experience they always have great pricing with really good specials plus nightly specials that make it almost irresistible to come in I'd recommend the French onion soup probably the best I've ever had in my entire life LOL

  • Rob E.

The food is good, service is fast, beers are cold and what else do you need at a brewery? Oh yeah, the prices are reasonable too. But compared to California everything out here is reasonable! I'll be back.

Popped in because it was close to the hotel and I wanted something with a good choice in beers. We found a decent quiet seat towards the back and Doris took our drink orders. When she returned with them, we were ready to order. I had the Goose Island "Matilda" which is a local brew that I've not had before. With it, I chose the Caribbean Salad. The salad had a very good amount of chicken on it, with strawberries and nuts and crumbles of bleu cheese. Interesting. And delicious. Seating was comfortable, if maybe a bit dark. I'd return.

  • Shawn J.

The food was great. I had the chicken pot pie and it was like home made. I was shocked that it filled me but it did. My friends burger was good but nothing to write home about just a burger. The beer was good. They have a few ipa beers and both bartenders were very knowledgeable about beers. We had a good conversation with them about beer and brewing. If you find yourself looking for a place to eat and are near by I would recommend giving this place a shot.

1st time we have been to this restaurant. The food was very good. I had a cup of the French onion soup and the western burger. Husband had a wedge salad and the Cajun prime rib sandwich. He tried it with the chipotle mayo, which was too spicy, but it was better with regular mayo. Service was good. Only complaint was no bread or crackers to go with the soup or salad, had to order breadsticks. Most restaurants serve salad and soup with rolls or crackers. Would go back again if we are in the area.

    (4)
  • Joseph B.

Food was just average. Ribeye was gristle and over aged. Bartender wasn't very friendly and the host/manager sat at the bar playing on his phone. The place has potential to be a lively place but the staff act like they don't want to be there.

  • Kyle B.

I work in the area and come here often for lunch or after work. The atmosphere, seating arrangements, and location are the best things about this place. The service is generally awful. They don't say it on the website but specials only apply during undisclosed times or in the words of our waitress "I know there are no timeframes for the specials on the menu or online but they don't apply right now". I'll keep coming back only for the fact that they have a more vegetarian-accomodating menu than Brickhouse down the street. The veggie burgers aren't frozen patties and are generally higher-end.

So there we were, investigating hotels for our upcoming reception, and decided to get an early dinner. I ordered the Caribbean salad. (Partly because I'd never had a salad that combined strawberries, blue cheese and pralines before). While I waited, I had the Allagash White beer, which was so tasty, I felt bad about not having gotten the 2 pint serving! I guess we were pretty hungry, because we also decided to split the sampler platter. The wings, onion rings and pretzel sticks were pretty good, but I thought the southwest eggrolls were the best item on the platter. The fiancee ordered the chicken pot pie, which was basically the standard pot pie filling in a rammekin, covered with biscuit dough and baked. He was not very impressed. The vibe (on a lazy Sunday afternoon) was comfy, laid back and friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed my salad, most of which I had to bring home, due to too much appetizer. However, the menu was varied and what I had was pretty good. The place had a nice vibe and I would go back. (Especially for a chance to try the Banana Cream Pie in a Jar!) Respectable pub food and a very nice selection of brew.

Very friendly staff. Comfortable room. Nice beer selection and good sandwiches. Fun place to stop by for a beer and some dinner.

  • Caroline M.

As mentioned in previous reviews, my fiancé and I get basically the same thing every place. I like to say that I live on variety, but the reality is that I order fish tacos and he orders a chicken sandwich with bacon & cheese, only. And we usually get the pretzels/pretzel sticks. Maybe boring to others, but I know what I like and that's what I get (I do get other things, sometimes. But fish tacos are good when you don't see anything else good). Alright. So, surprise surprise. That's what we ordered. I must say, these were possibly the worst fish tacos I've ever had. It was a flour tortilla with shredded iceberg lettuce and some sort of sauce. And the "fish" were what I referred to as "fish tubes". It was almost as if they used frozen fish sticks in their fish tacos. I do not recommend their fish tacos at all. I switched out the cole slaw & chips for broccoli. The broccoli was actually quite good, but the side shouldn't be the best thing on the plate. My fiancé's chicken sandwich was subpar, in his words. He said the highlight of his meal was his fries. Which, again, is not ideal. I had an arnold palmer (iced tea & lemonade) and it had a very weird taste. Like both were watered down, which is strange (at worst, it should just be from the fountain). The alcoholic drinks menu is extensive, but the nonalcoholic drinks were not listed on the menu. We would've ordered the dessert, but didn't want to risk it. If the food was horrible, there's a good chance the dessert wouldn't be fantastic. Not worth our time, nor money. There was nothing wrong with the service, just the food. The ambiance is nice on the inside; stone, wood, etc. It has a nice feel, except for the "ROCKWOOD" sign. The outside of the restaurant looks cheap, but the inside looks relatively nice. The outside and inside don't really match. It looks like it could be a nice restaurant, but then there are TVs, and TGI Fridays type decorations. It's a weird clash and it seems like it's a bit of an identity crisis. There's so many other places in the area, we probably won't return.

Went here on a Friday date night during the summer. We were seated right away on the patio, which is very nice and spacious. But that was the extent of our positive experience here. It took almost 20 minutes to get drinks, and then another 20 to place an order. It took about 30-40 minutes for our hamburgers, (i should mention that they were only 4 parties of 2 out there with 3 servers). We were the first to order and last to receive our food. Food is mediocre at best and everything just took so long!

Appetizers are advertised as 1/2 price, M-F, 3pm to 6pm. Ordered 4 appetizers with our waiter. I believe it was the "manager" that came over to our table and stated, "I overheard your order, it is only 1/2 off appetizers, 1 per person, per table." That was fine, however, no where is that stated on the menu, their website, or on any "card" on the table. The only stipulation on appetizers is that the Lettuce Wraps and Sampler are not included, and, we did not order either one of those options. Somehow I felt it was a comment made at the spur of the moment. Perhaps the "manager" did not want to let us have 4 actual appetizers at 1/2 off, (maybe he thought that was just too many and he'd be losing his profit margin). I can't really say, and I don't know, but it was a bit tacky. We have been to Rockwood Tap House in the past and a limit on the number of appetizers a table could purchase at their 1/2 off serving time was NEVER an issue. Maybe management has changed, noticed the place did not have a lot of customers. Also seemed like the glasses for drinks (besides the beer glasses) were a smaller version then in the past, i.e., martini glass and the pina colada type glass looked pretty small compared to what you would see elsewhere. As for the appetizers; they were okay as appetizers go, nothing spectacular. If you're looking for a "true" tap house that serves decent food, there are plenty of more options in the area that are a bit more inviting, have good food, and straight-forward specials and advertising. We won't be back to Rockwood Tap House.

This review is for the banquet services, Suffice it to say, the food we were served looked NOTHING like the food in the pictures. The buns were stale, there were some chips, burgers that were half the size of those awful buns, and grilled chicken breast that was void of flavor and rubbery. Seriously, get out of the banquet business, that is the best advice I can offer. The room was either sweltering hot or extremely cold. There was no middle ground for comfort. However, one star for the large comfort station. Based on this experience, I would hesitate to come for another meal.

I saved my first review for the first place I've been to where I walked out in awe. I saw this place was a three star place on Yelp at the time of this review, and I couldn't believe it at the end of eating my dessert. I've been to five star places, according to Yelp, and I wasn't as amazed as when I left here. My server, Daniel knew exactly what he was talking about. He had clearly eaten and drank here, so he had some good recommendations. I decided to go with a burger. I forget what it was called, but it had guacamole and jalapeños on it. It was perfect. I asked for medium, and medium was what I got. It wasn't to messy. The fries were equally amazing. My girlfriend had the burger which is a grilled cheese sandwich as each bun and a burger in the middle. I tried it; IT WAS AMAZING. I saw they had bread pudding. I eat the bread pudding at any place I've been to that has it, and this was the best. It wasn't overly sweet, and you can choose between vanilla and cinnamon ice cream. Our server was timely with everything, and the food runner was one of the nicest food runners I've ever encountered. I live about 45 minutes away, and I would drive that just to eat here again.

I was was greeted as soon as I walked in and decided to sit at the bar. The bartender (Kelsey) asked if I wanted to hear about the specials then took my drink order. I ordered the prime rib sandwich and it was very tasty and the coleslaw on the side was fresh and crisp. The hoagie roll was soft and there was a good serving of meat on the sandwich. Next time I would order the bun toasted. When I am back in the area I will visit here again.

One of my favorite restaurants as the prices are just about right, nothing is overdone, it is classic American and the salads are top-notch. Especially the jerk chicken, pineapple/strawberry, blue cheese combo called Caribbean salad. LOVE !! And also, the wraps are really really good and huge (football size) the burgers are unbeatable, portions are satisfying and the bar service is prompt and there is a very funny and hospitable server there named Jake who has entertained us a few times. The owners usually are there making sure everything is top quality and a good family-owned local business. I love to frequent this restaurant. And a gorgeous patio for summer !!

Management is deplorable and the food is so so. I would go back except for the snotty management, which appeared to consist of a tall, bald head, white guy that claimed to be the owner. He didn't like the fact that I noticed his bar was disorganized and FILTHY and that I pointed it out a few times to his staff during the day when the place was DEAD. Avoid this joint at all costs or waste your money. I am tempted to call the health department.

The waitress was great but I didnt catch her name. When we first arrived there was barely anyone in the place. We asked for a table close to an outlet for our small informal meeting of 8. They kept saying it was ready when it was not.. we got lot of walking done going from one end of the restaurant back to the front waiting for our table to be ready. That was annoying. Im not sure what that was about. We ordered drinks my bloody tasted like just like tomato juice with olives on top and a lime. There was no seasoning in it at all and I wonder if there was liquor. They brought out the food and sat it on the tray table then left. Nothing was warm and the tops of most were dried. I got the nachos. They were not any good. I got 3 pieces of flat soggy tortilla shells with beans then cheese then lettuce and tomato. Dry ingredients should have been on the bottom to keep the chips crisp. The plate took up half of the table which is a poor choice of plating. The sliders that were ordered were soggy, the cheeseburger was seasonless. It was an aweful experience.

When you're jonesing for "bar food" but want a nicer atmosphere, a solid beer list and some options that are just a little different, Rockwood fits the bill. We've become fairly regular visitors here because the food is tasty and the service is good. Worth noting on the menu: Onion rings, southwestern egg rolls and nachos (both Texas style and regular) are all solid. Fish tacos are perfectly fried and very tasty. The salads are huge and a little unusual (the Caribbean salad is quite good). Aztec chicken wrap is spicy! Large juicy burgers, and you can get one with a large, thick wheel of fried provolone. Which I'm sure is awful for you, but. Slab of fried cheese. the beer list always has something worthwhile on it, although it's not necessarily craft beer paradise. They have some good specials, too. I never have enough room for dessert, but they have some tasty looking options...

I was in the area on business, and with no car, was restricted for dinner options within walking distance of my hotel. Dining alone on a Tuesday, I sat at the bar. There were relatively few customers (about 15 at the expansive bar.) There was nothing wrong with the temperature when I was there. Diana, the bartender, was great! She had a thorough knowledge of the beer list (and enough patience) to help me confidently pick a tasting flight of four beers I had never tried before. (Incidentally, $7.50 for four 5-oz pours, chosen from anything on the draft list, is pretty decent in my opinion.) She also recommended the prime rib, which was very tasty, especially with the fresh horseradish she brought for me. As a frequent traveler, a good dinner experience at a restaurant bar is often what decides which hotel I choose when returning to an area, since one hotel is often similar to the next. I will be back!

Most terrible dining experience since living in IL! Our group of 12 made a reservation ahead of time, there were other larger groups dining as well so this "group" dining was not a foreign concept to the restaurant. We got there, the 2 other larger groups next to us already ate so our food order was definitely not waiting on theirs. It took the bar tender (no server available) 25 min to take our order & another 35 to get our meal. She snapped at the poor guy bringing food from the kitchen because she "had 2 people waiting at the bar". Not sure how you compute 2 vs 12 ppl when it comes to tips. The cook assistant was left asking us what we ordered & we had to play Guess Who with who ordered what. Two people in our group received extremely rare tuna steaks when they ordered it med-well, those were sent back. The worst was when my co-worker pulled her burger from her mouth WITH A LONG BLACK HAIR coming from her burger. She ran to the bathroom & got sick. We asked 3 times in 10 min for boxes, never did get them. We asked for the bill (after being there involuntarily for an hour & a half), she gave it to us all on one. I got the hugest attitude when I asked if it could be split. Not sure why she thought 1 person was generously going to pay for EVERYONE but we were left scrounging for cash & trying to divy it up. I moved from out of state 6 mths ago, have ate out at least 2 times a wk all around the western suburbs & downtown. Never again will our company that's just around the corner, go here. Should have learned our lesson after 2 wks ago we got half frozen apps during happy hour!

Rockwood is close to my work and perfect to go to after a long day. Great beer on tap and specials, however, their food is just ok. Nothing fantastic or anything i would really reccomend.

Been here many times and figured I should finally put up a review. The food is good, burgers are where it's at here though. The beer list is pretty good, they typically have at least 5+ good craft beers to choose from(plus all of the traditional domestics and imports). I have yet to have something I really didn't like (beer or food). This is a very casual place to go and grab a beer and dinner without feeling like you are at a cookie cutter place. There are only 2 things that have bugged me at all in the times I have been here. One is that it can be hit or miss with the staff. They have a couple of really good servers and a couple that fall a little short. The other is that sometimes when you look around at the decor and ceiling it feels like they need to do a little fixing. Over all I really do like Rockwood and being that it's close to home, it's our trusty bar to go to.

Everything my husband and I have ever ordered from Rockwood has been completely satisfying. We often bring our friends here and they all become fans of the place. Never over crowded, great prices on everything and good service each time.

Ambiance was really great, service was awesome, but unfortunately the food not so good. Very bland! In fact the best thing was the cheese sauce. Even though the setting was great the food is nothing to return for.

The advertised appetizer special is a bit misleading and I believe false. First, it applies in the lounge area only???? It's a tap house for goodness sakes. And after ordering a variety of appetizers I was informed that it was half price on only one item per person, not the entire order. That's not what the menu says. Restaurant was not like this before. This will be my last visit.

Not a bad place for a quick dinner. Stopped in for dinner on a Tuesday and the place was empty. A plus from the start is they do have a nice quiet outside eating area. Our server Priscilla was very nice and attentive. We both had sandwiches. I had the Mushroom Swiss Burger with the Homemade Vegetable Patty on a Ciabatta Roll. The sandwich was very tasty and hot and the veggie patty had excellent flavor. The other person had the wedge salad and the blackened rib-eye sandwich. The sandwich was enormous and would feed at least two. It was a large piece of beef served with a huge portion of chips. The wedge had a ton of bleu cheese, bacon, tomato and bleu cheese dressing. Enjoyed the meal and will probably stop in again when I am passing through the area.

Being a vegetarian, I generally can't find anything to eat in a "bar food" type restaurant. Rockwood certainly didn't have a ton of veggie options, but there were a few, and I settled on the veggie burger, because it was homemade, instead of the usual token Boca Burger or Garden Burger experience. It.was.fantastic. It was large, had visible vegetables (not just filler), and it was perfectly grilled. It's not often that I can rave about a vegetarian burger outside of an actual vegetarian restaurant. I had mine with smoked Gouda, garlic mayo, and lettuce and tomatoes. I'd recommend it to my non vegetarian friends. My husband, who is very picky, and my 14 year old also enjoyed their meals very much. In fact, the teenager deemed his burger (which was beef) to be "amazing." My toddler very much enjoyed his grilled cheese and homemade chips. Here's my plug for the homemade chips, as well. Wow were they ever good! The only thing that keeps this from being a five star experience is the service. We got terrible service. Our waitress seemed generally confused throughout. We ordered some nachos and homemade potato chips as an appetizer. Instead of chips we got fries with dipping sauce. We had to send them back and ask for the chips, and even though they messed up the order, they still charged us for the dipping sauce (that we didn't order in the first place!). My burger arrived without the cheese, so it had to go back to the kitchen to be fixed, and our nachos came without the guacamole. We also had to ask a different server for drink refills. The food = fantastic. The service = no so great.

Just okay for me. This is the formal location of Finley's Grill Room and is now called Rockwood Tap House with menu changes and interior improvements. The management and chefs are the same, our waitress told us. The food is a little less fancy than Finley's and the prices a bit cheaper. Since the bar is in the center, it can be a bit loud, but overall it's a decent place. It's what you expect from a somewhat upscale tap house restaurant. I only give it an OK rating because next door is Fuddrucker's and I have a mighty love for that place. You get whatever burger you want with whatever toppings and it's cheaper. At our table: 1 burger, 1 vegetarian burger (homemade but with few seasonings-- could be improved), 1 pulled pork sandwich, and one pot pie. I ordered the veggie burger and was pleased that the burger choice I made was topped with BBQ sauce, cheese, and grilled onions. It was huge! It was also very messy but that's usually a good thing when speaking of BBQ sauce. It needed all the sauce because the patty was not so wonderful. It had great ingredients (carrots, veggies, beans = protein), but the flavor was lacking. We all thought our food was good, but considering there are many restaurants I've never been to everywhere, I wouldn't run back to this place. If others wanted to go, I'd encourage Fudd's instead for burgers... but would go back if it was a decision of the group. We had pretzels to start as an appetizer and they were okay-- served with mustard and cheese sauce. I also ordered a Rockwood lager for $4 and it was decent. They have daily drink specials and a decent draft list. I do agree with the first reviewer, though, the fries were good.

Good place to gather up your football (baseball / basketball / curling / cupcake bakeoff / insert relevant competition here) friends, order a giant basket of wings, wrap your fingers around a cold brew, and yell for your team. They had a 20 wings for $10 special when we were there on Sunday. Their wings come lightly breaded with the sauce on the side, which works since it keeps them from getting soggy. Plenty of tvs, space, and daily specials, not a bad place to hang if you're a fan, with lots of friends, and a limited booze budget.

Props to my babe for picking this place! We were sat in a dark corner, a very dark corner booth, it was pretty spacious. The place is quite large. The waitress was training a new waiter so we had pretty good service. They were very attentive. For starters, we had the Onion Ring Tower and for dinner we ordered the Santa Fe Burger (Pepper Jack Cheese, Jalapenos, Guacamole and Salsa) and the BBQ Pulled Pork which is slow cooked for 17 hours, both came with hand cut fries. I thought their food and service was pretty good. I wouldn't mind going back.

OK, so...... first time at this restaurant. Upon walking in, decor seemed like sports bar meets lounge. It was different but I don't know if I liked it. We asked to sit on the patio seeing as it was a nice night. The patio seemed cold and unwelcoming, just a wood deck and about 10 tables. No kind of decor or atmosphere. Our server was average, he took our order, served our food, and checked up on us all without personality. I had a salad, it was decent. Here is the real kicker, while we were sitting waiting for our bill, we saw a server come out to the patio, walk out the gate, and for some reason he caught my eye- there is a wood privacy fence surronding the patio and behind that there is a grassy area- well this person decided to take his "bathroom break" back there, had a few drags, and headed back inside. I'm sure he thought no one could see him but we totally could from our angle through the wood slats. I hope he washed his hands before going back to work but I wouldn't count on it!

Rockwood is our regular place. When we say, "Let's go out," without making a big deal of it, we scan though 15-20 places around Downers Grove, but almost always pick the Rockwood. The food ranges from good to outstanding (the Cedar Plank Salmon and the burgers are our favorites), the prices are moderate, the service is consistently friendly and casual, and the restaurant-bar decor is pleasant (with sports TVs, but not too loud).

The menu is large and has something to offer just about anyone. Nice, casual yet classy atmosphere. Went on a Friday night, got seated right away at a booth in the bar (we asked for this location). Our server was a gentleman, very nice, very efficient, great service. Was a little disappointed with the Cajun pasta dish I ordered. I've had it in the past (years ago, when the place was called Finley's) and loved it. I was very excited to see it was still on the menu, but the sauce just wasn't as good, was kind of heavy and gooey, and the flavor just wasn't as good. I've tried a lot of food from here, and for the most part it is always very good. They also offer great specials during the week.

For having only a handful of customers at the time, the service was pretty horrible. We saw our waitress only a handful of times - it took me 5 minutes to return my chicken sandwich, which had a piece of hair on it. The sandwich came back promptly and it wasn't completely remade- the cheese was replaced, as was the top bun, but the bottom bun was soggy and the chicken barely warm. I was too hungry to be picky and the sandwich was actually pretty decent despite all of that. There were no apologies, no offer to comp anything so that left a bad taste in our mouth. And another smack in the face- when we left, the hostess didn't bother to even look up and say a word to us even though we said goodbye. What a waste of a meal.

This is my favorite casual restaurant in the area. It's a big place so we usually don't have issues with getting a table. I've been here at least two dozen times with groups of varying size and each trip has been a success. Great selection of beers and great food. I particularly like the burgers and the Carribean salad. The patio could use some enhancements though. Nothing bad about it - just plain and basic.

I went here yesterday with 5 of my friends to celebrate my birthday. It was hot inside, like the A/C had been turned down or off. Our waitress was nice, but when it came to getting our food, I had to wait while everyone else was served because of a "problem" in the kitchen. Food was "meh". Vegetarians BEWARE- there is egg binder in the "veggie burger" which was disclosed to us only after the waitress had heard us discussing it. After a mediocre lunch we left and to our surprise there was a red mini van actually touching one of my friend's bumpers from the rear as in-pushed in. We went inside to find out who owned this vehicle. Turned out to be a young waitress. There was plenty of parking as it was a between lunch/dinner time, but this person had decided to park behind and mash the front of her mom's car into my friend's. She swore up and down that she did not hit my friend's car. Upon seeing them crammed together you think she would say, "I'm so sorry" or something to that effect. Nope! She continues to deny it!! Then the manager (or owner, I am not sure which) came out. He took his employee's side to our utter amazement. Saying not to call the police and that my friend's bumper was hanging too far behind the parking space. Really?? My friend pulled forward and there was a line in her bumper where this kid pushed into her. She told the manager and the employee to forget it, that none of us were coming back again. All it would have taken is an apology. We have kids, we understand things happen. But to have this continual denial with the support of her boss..unacceptable.

This was our third visit. We love the atmosphere and the way they have the seating arranged. We started with the pretzel sticks appetizer with 2 dips of cheese and mustard. Delicious! My hubby got the tilapia with julienne veggies and rice pilaf. It was gone in a heartbeat! My son ordered the fish and chips with seasoned fries. Came to the table steaming hot. He said it rivaled our homemade recipe. I, being a vegetarian, had the portobello mushroom and roasted red pepper sandwich. It is usually served with their tasty potato chips, but I substituted them with the rice pilaf. The mushroom also has cheese and a balsamic vinaigrette dressing. I get this every time we go because I love it that much. The booths are huge and can easily fit six people. They also have a banquet room and plenty of TV's. I think Rockwood Tap is a hidden gem. We always get seated right away and the service is top notch!

I like the update to this place - I've gone to the various incarnations of this property for over a decade. The menu has had a few changes since this was the Finley Grill Room, but still has a lot of great choices. I met a colleage here for lunch today and we had a great meal. I can only report on one entree - we both went with the fish and chips. The fish was battered on-site, not a frozen product and was very good. Melanie was our server - what a gem! She was attentive, playful, and made sure that we enjoyed our meal. For dessert I had the apple pie cobbler, which was really tasty. It was served over a candle to warm it - a bit over the top for the presentation...but the apples were just the right balance of tart/sweet. Good food, great service, and reasonable prices.

Good food, good service, decent atmosphere, good parking, but it lacks good social interaction. It's mainly perverted business men in suites there to look at big racks from provocative waitresses. I like meeting people here for business and enjoying their good food.

My husband loves the chopped salad, and eats here all the time. Friendly service and a decent size menu, and it's nice that a place finally seems to have made it here. I've been here a couple of times, and I'm a pickier eater than he is. Not a heck of a lot of healthy options; a lot of it's on the comfort food side. P.S. I wish they would let some sunlight into the place. I feel like I'm in a cave.

This has been in our community for a while but has changed names a few times which always makes me skeptical. Last night we decided to give it a try. Wow!! Is all I can say! It was PHENOMENAL!! The decor is intimate dining meets sports bar but not load and they are separated. If you felt like looking for a basketball or hockey score, you could turn you head to find out. Service was excellent and because they serve a tremendous amount of beer, the server was extremely knowledgeable and helpful about finding what you would like. I had their cedar plank salmon. The salmon was a top quality center cut, not a prepackaged flat salmon wannabe. It was cooked to perfection...perfectly medium! Moist, smoky (from the cedar plank) and full of great flavor. It was paired with a dirty basamati rice and julienne veggies and it was a perfect pairing. My husband ordered the Grouper, which was like eating lobster! It was paired with a sweet and spicy compote that was out of this world! I would highly recommend this place and I will definitely be going back!

We decided to check out this place since we hadnt had a chance since it was changed. This place is huge, very nice, what potential! Unfortunately, it was dead for a Saturday night. After ordering drinks, thankfully the wine didnt taste old, always nice and the beer was good. We started with the Lettuce wraps, ugh, the ginger sauce was 'gooey' like brown snots. The peanut sauce was okay but could definitely tell it wasnt fresh. We ordered the Asian chicken salad. Wow, no good either. It smelled like a fridge that had rotting produce, I barely touched it. Terrible. We also had the pot roast sandwich which was better though the fries did not look or taste like fresh 'hand cut' fries, maybe that is what it states on the bag? They were also 'greasy'. My take, from experience, go fresh, get rid of all the packaged/jarred/canned crap, we can definitely tell the difference. I will give it a try when I see a menu change. One good thing and the reason for two stars is that the server was wonderful. She was the only one working and had little help from the manager/host (?) when a larger party came in. Instead of having to wait for her to take our check to pay, he should have come and taken it to help out (good business). We waited a long while because she was taking their order. Not even a goodbye or a look when we left. He was too busy leaned over the table in the front, reading. This place would definitely be much better for a drink than a meal. Great to hang out.

Excellent Beer selection and slightly upscale bar fare. The pizza burger was amazing. They also have some pasta and meat dishes that I would say is a step above your usual pub meal. I've always had good service in the evening but I had a friend who went for lunch and said it was too slow to fit inside his lunch hour. Around 7pm they dimmed the lights down, and they already pretty low to begin with. I mean I like to at least see the persons face I'm siting across from. If you enjoy a craft beer with your meal this is right up your ally.

Let me just say that my friends and I came here after drinking and eating at The Brickhouse.. down the street... This place is larger, but has a more upscale look. A fireplace, a banquet hall, and a huge bar with many taps suggesting ... microbrews!! There were good beer choices, but as I looked through the menu, I noticed it being very similar to Brickhouse. Maybe because I was just there... I will say that the "Frickles" were unique, yes, breaded and fried pickles. The entree portions are huge. As a vegetarian I wasnt very interested in the huge Steak menu, but just putting it out there that they have one! On a Saturday night, they were completely dead.. I dont know why this is.. Perhaps they could advertise more? The waitstaff was made up of a few elderly men ( nothing wrong with that) but after our initial order, no one stopped by to see how we're doing. At least with a place like Brickhouse, you have tip hungry teenagers running quick to get your drink. I dont see myself coming back here unless I am with a large enough group.

Came here on a Thursday night and they had a BBQ Baby back Rib special. Took advantage of it and they were delicious. Also had $2 Miller Lite's which added to the enjoyment of the meal. My son had the shrimp linguini and thought it was quite good. Only drawback about this place is the ambiance. I liked it better when it was the Findley Grill Room. They seem to be trying to establish it as more of a bar than a good restaurant. Food is good but the place is noisy and the wait staff seems to have gone downhill. Our watress was nice but just not very good. We will go back because the food is reasonably priced and good. Hopefully they will decide to find their identity as a restaurant and not a bar.

Have been here multiple time. Beer selection is great. Over 30 on tap, with a lot of seasonals. Place is huge, can accomidate large groups and events. Was told there was outdoor seating, but did not look at it. Large menu, no complaints with dishes we ordered.

I find this to be a much better place since it was the Finley Grill Room. Much less formal and the prices seem to be bit more in line for what it is. I had their cream of chicken & basmati rice soup to start. It was good but badly needed the salt from the oyster crackers they provided. I do appreciate the use of basmati rice and plan to use that from now on in a lot of my recipes! For the main course my wife & I ordered the same thing that I had ordered when it was on special a month ago. The marinated flank steak with a baked potato cooked perfectly is something we'll keep coming back for. My only complaint was when I asked about specials for the night I was given the drink specials. I asked for the food specials and was told there were none. I was looking forward to try something different at a bit of a discount like I had discovered that flank steak. It's a minor complaint, but I've never heard of no specials on a Saturday! For dessert we shared the apple crisp which was delicious and enough for four people. Easily the best value of the meal! The service was very attentive, but we did find it a bit odd that our waiter only served our drinks. They had separate staff that delivered and cleared our food. It brought to mind a high end steak house that didn't vibe with their menu and atmosphere.

Let me start out by saying, this is my first Yelp review. I feel that I use the service so much when making decisions on picking a restaurant, I should contribute. We went on a weekday evening for a couple of drinks and dinner. When I first walked inThe beer selection is top notch as mentioned. I would describe the decor as upscale, kinda dark. We ordered a couple burgers, french onion soup, and quesadilla for appetizers. The quesadilla was above average, nothing to write home about. The French Onion Soup was above average. Rockwood definitely has a wide selection of burgers and sandwiches. The burger was a little too greasy, and my acquaintance agreed with me. We chose to eat at the bar and the bartender was attentive. The food was average as was the service. Nothing to write home about, but nothing to really complain.

Rockwood Tap House has been so many different places and wish they would have kept it The Finley Grill Room, even though it's the same management. Our server, Cory was really nice but the food was less than par. There were 3 of us dining and we all ordered very different things... Everything was super spicy. I had a salad. How can a salad be so spicy?! Then there were the drinks... Who pays $25 for a pitcher of beer? Coming from someone who works in the bar industry, that's outrageous. Cheapest pitcher they had was $12 for Labatt's. Cheapest pint was $4 for Labatt's. The set-up in there seems a little goofy... It seems like an eclectic bar mixed between sports bar and wanna be high-class lounge. Kind of made everything a little awkward. I don't think we'll be going back there.

Kinda stumbled on this place one night about a week ago. We were wanting to go to another restaurant but the wait was long and so we drove down the street and happened upon this place. I didn't know it used to be anything else, I just saw the "Grand Opening" sign and assumed it was new, apparently it's been around for awhile, just under a different name (same mgmt. though). The food was OK, I had the fish tacos and my wife had the lettuce wraps (actually an appetizer). The portions were great, way more than enough food. The beer selection was also quite large, though I didn't see anything on the beer list that raised an eyebrow (mostly common brews). This is definitely a place for hanging out with a group of people, or if you're just looking for something to eat. Not really a date night place. Reasonable prices, good atmosphere.

Came on a Wednesday. Good call on my part. All pints except for Goose Island Matilda were $2.50. Pretty good selection of IPA's in addition to some other cool finds (Rogue Dead Guy, Hop Czar). Beer bill would have been about 3X as much on a different night. We got the wings for an app. $5.00 for 10 wings on Wednesday. Again...good call on my part. We got the honey mustard which had some zing to it. Will try the hot guys next time. Aside from that I got the Rockwood burger. Had a bunch of cheese and bacon on it. They topped it off with a fried egg. Can't beat that. Decor was strange. Very open atmosphere. Service was decent. 4 beers...a diet coke....an app and two entrees was around 45 bucks. not bad. I will be back. On a Wednesday. Possibly to watch the Sox.

So we tried to go to clam jumper for my husbands birthday and thy were packed so we decided to go to rockwood and what a huge disappointment!!!! I haven't been to a restaurant in a long time that doesn't have a gluten free menu!! It's 2014 and there is a large part of our population that is gluten free for one reason or another. So when I asked for a gluten free menu they said we don't have one but I can tell you what you can't have but you probably know already what you can't have daaaa!!! So I asked the waitress if they had any gluten free salad dressing she comes back and says my manager said they are all gluten free REALLY!!! The last time I check there aren't too many gluten free salad dressing out there. So from there on out I knew they had no idea what they were talking about! So I had to use my best judgement. They are going to make people VERY sick with their lack of knowledge about gluten. So if you are gluten free stay far away from this restaurant if don't don't want to end up deathly ill! The food was Good but if your gluten free BECAREFUL!

My boyfriend and I had dinner here a few weeks ago a little later on a Friday night. The service was good and the place was clean. I liked the boneless buffalo wings and he didn't. He liked the french fries and I didn't. I had the rib eye sandwich and it was awesome. He had the chicken parmesan sandwich and he loved it! My big problem with the place was our Togo desserts. I got the key lime pie(ok) and he got the banana pudding in a mason jar. So we get the bill and they charged us for the jar it came in on top of the reg dessert price. Now I'm not worried about spending a buck, and restaurants don't do much Togo dessert business. If you can't spring for giving a customer the packaging you decided to serve it in, every once and a while, I kind of find a problem with that.

The food is good, but not worthy of 4-5 stars. We had the salmon, good, but had better at many seafood restaurants nearby. The service is very good, atmosphere is just average. May or may not go back, since the restaurants in the area are better.

My family likes this place a lot. The pot roast sandwich is the best, it has onion straws on it and is more food than you can eat in one sitting, leaving you delicious leftovers. If you go, figure out their drink specials, they have a good beer selection and on certain nights drinks are cheap.

I work nearby and used to come here when it was finley grill. I've been here a couple times since the name change, and the food is still good minus a couple unusual sounding menu choices. It's a little dark inside but the service is usually attentive and enjoyable. I've never really seen it swamped though. The food is tasty, and they have good bar deals. Other than the drab lighting I don't know why this place doesn't draw more of a crowd. I'd say check it out.

I went to this restaurant for the first time on May 11th, and suffice to say I didn't have a very pleasant experience. For starters our waiter brought me the wrong beer that I ordered twice. I asked for Stone Levitation Ale and a Brooklyn Brewery East IPA. Instead he brought me MGD and Stella Artois - big difference. He was also very inattentive and wouldn't come back to check on us after he brought us the food. It took 45 minutes for him to bring us the check. My friend and I ordered burgers and he had our orders mixed up (served with wrong fries, bun, and toppings) and they were very undercooked. They were served to us sitting in a puddle of blood and grease. I could have had a better burger at Fuddruckers next door. The interior and décor is very welcoming. They did a really nice job making it a classy and comfortable restaurant. It's a shame the waiter and food couldn't execute at the same level. I won't come back.

This place is phenomenal! I have been there a few times to try it out (different times of the week) and have had a great experience every time. The bacon bleu cheeseburger with hand cut fries was fantastic! My friend had the barbecue ribs and it was awesome (so tender that the meast easily came off the bone). Another friend had the pot roast and that too had a great taste and the food portion was very hearty! The wait staff is friendly, attentive, and takes care of you! This place has a very good beer selection. Even though I can have anything I want, I can't help but order a Blue Moon with an orange slice. On Wednesday night they have pint specials, which is great! The decor is cozy and there are numerous HD tvs carefully placed so you can see one no matter if you are seated at a booth, a table, or the bar. The lighting is a little on the dark side, but that's not too bothersome. This is a great place to go on a date, or with friends for a good meal, or just to sit quietly and have a cold one to watch any game! They also have a patio in back where you can sit under umbrellas outside if you want to.

Burger was tasty, hit the spot when needed. Decor is great so the atmosphere is nice. Food was actually delivered by a team of kitchen staff that were not our waitress, which was fine. We did have to have all the toppings delivered on separate plates one by one as they were forgotten. Other than a seemingly long wait for the food on what appeared to be a slow night, everything was good. Would return again.

One of our standard stops. Love the beer flights! Great beer selection. Good food and drink specials. Food never disappoints. Comfortable atmosphere if you're with the wives and want to chat, lots of TVs if there is a good game on. Also an outdoor seating area if it's nice out. We've been coming here about 4 years and we always leave ready to come back.

I always enjoy dining at this restaurant and think the beer selection is pretty good. If you want a good meal, stop by.
